Cricket event proves a big hit

A FESTIVAL of cricket took place in Oxford in the hope of uncovering England’s next Freddie Flintoff.

The event, backed by a £4,000 grant from Oxford City Council , was held at Cowley Marsh Park on Sunday.

A tournament, featuring eight players competing in a single innings, was won by the Oxford Warriors.

Deputy lord mayor Mohammed Abbasi, who represents Cowley Marsh, said: “We had a lot of players and it was a good chance for the community to get together. It was a good day from an informative point of view as well.”

There was also entertainment, food and theatre displays.
