New college appointment aims to bring in bright students
6:00pm Wednesday 12th September 2012 in News
A NEW post has been created at an Oxford University college aimed at encouraging bright state school students to apply to top universities.
Dr Peter Claus will be access fellow for Pembroke College – thought to be the first such Oxbridge post.
Dr Claus will oversee and teach a year-long programme with high-achieving sixth formers from schools and colleges in Hackney, East London.
He will also oversee a similar programme in the north west of England.
He said: “We hope that after working with an access fellow over a full academic year, pupils will have experience of undergraduate teaching and some knowledge about the Oxford admissions process and so will be able to look beyond the myths and feel confident about applying.”
