Nature enthusiasts are wanted to join the 'BioBlitz'

Nature enthusiasts have been invited to save the world – one bug at a time at Farmoor Reservoir .

Families have been invited to get directly involved in a ‘BioBlitz’ wildlife audit on Sunday September 16.

Thames Water will host events such as guided birdwatching and bug-hunting walks to gather data to be used by an environmental records centre to monitor the changes to biodiversity in the area.

Records of reptiles, badgers, bats and other small mammals will also be made, with some requiring to be trapped and logged before being released.

Cathy Purse, Biodiversity Engagement manager for Thames Water, said: “The BioBlitz events are a fun way to get everyone involved with the conservation of the environment. Everyone is welcome.”

Previous events have located between 300 and 1,000 different species.

The BioBlitz begins at 6.30am, continuing throughout the day with a wide range of activities, until 11pm. People can turn up any time during the day. For more details, email cathy.purse@thameswater.co.uk
