Five taken to hospital after Eastern Bypass crash

FIVE people have tonight been taken to hospital with neck and back injuries after a two-car crash on Oxford's Eastern Bypass.

The ambulance service was called at 7pm to the scene near Headington Quarry.

The injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Five ambulances and one ambulance officer were sent to the scene.

Accidents can and do happen, but is this another sad case of bad driving on this notorious road which many seem to use as a race-track? No speed cameras and seemingly little effective policing - especially with regard to many of the hotted-up cars (some even taxed) and bikers who scream up and down the Eastern Bypass apparently immune to being stopped by the Police. How many more deaths and injuries on this particular road, before more effective action is taken?

Accidents on our roads can and do happen, but is this another sad case of bad driving on this notorious road which many seem to use as a race-track? No speed cameras and seemingly little effective policing - especially with regard to many of the hotted-up cars (some even taxed) and bikers who scream up and down the Eastern Bypass every day and night, apparently immune to being stopped by the Police. How many more deaths and injuries on this particular road, before more effective action is taken?

Myron .. i couldn't agree with you more! I'm fed up of seeing drivers that think they are immune from ever getting into trouble.. bikes well they are first to complain about drivers not seeing them but they go around like bats outta hell and wonder why they get knocked off! I get lots of cars up my back end as i stay withing the limits.. they dont like it so they drive right up close then zoom up and away sick of it.

Couldn't agree with Amanda more about bikes. First to complain about car drivers but some of the riding I see is ridiculous!

Sorry mate you are wrong on this one. It is due to needles traffic lights on our ring road, the sections of the ring road with 70 mph limits and no lights are virtually accident free, A40 and A34 Pear tree To Botley, it is only where the council have made the Ring Road "safer" by installing lights, both on the road and at Junctions that there are a plethora of accidents. The figures bear this out. Just a quick question for you. From Green Road to Heyford Hill 70 mph limit, 1 major accident in many years caused by somedody going 50mph and being distracted, not related to speed. Our councils Knee Jerk reaction was to put a 50mph limit on the whole stretch, since then numerous accidents, almost 2 a week. Why is that, when the council made a previously safe road even safer? P.S. I will guess that this accident was caused by somebody slamming on the anchors when the traffic light turned Amber instead of carrying on through.
