Fraudster must return £12,000

AN Oxford man who defrauded the state out of more than £12,000 has been sentenced to unpaid work.

Marcin Michalczyk, of Toot Hill Butts, Headington, admitted three charges of dishonestly failing to notify Oxford City Council of a change to his circumstances that he knew would affect his entitlement to housing and council tax benefit between November 2008 and November 2010.

The 42-year-old obtained a total of £12,555.59 which he must now pay back.

Michalczyk was sentenced at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Friday to 200 hours of unpaid work over 12 months, and ordered to pay £150 costs.
