Cocaine debt prompted dealing in cannabis
7:00am Wednesday 19th September 2012 in News
A DRUG dealer found with cannabis and cocaine has been given a suspended sentence.
Iain Milligan was staying at an address in Danvers Road, Rose Hill, when it was raided by police on July 25 last year.
Inside the 22-year-old’s room officers found 271.8g of cannabis, worth up to £2,710, in seven bags.
Oxford Crown Court heard a total of 6.13g of cocaine and about £3,000 in cash was also found.
Milligan was sentenced at the court on Monday after earlier admitting possessing a Class B drug with intent to supply and possession of a Class A drug.
Stephen Parker, defending, said his client’s “heavy usage of cocaine” had resulted in him racking up a £3,500 drug debt.
He said: “The point came when he was in such a large amount of debt he agreed to become involved in the dealing of cannabis”.
The father-of-one, now living in Thomson Terrace, Littlemore, was given an eight-month jail term, suspended for a year. He was also given a year’s supervision with a three-month night-time curfew and told to do 120 hours’ unpaid work.
