20mph: Police nab 83 drivers breaking limit in St Giles'

POLICE have stopped 83 drivers flouting Oxford city centre’s 20mph speed limits .

Those travelling between 26mph and 31mph were given speed advice, while 16 drivers travelling above 31mph were given £60 fines and three penalty point.

The operation took place in St Giles between 10am and 12pm yesterday.

Police began enforcing the limit, which was introduced three years ago, earlier this year after complaints it was not being enforced.

On Tuesday the Oxford Mail revealed emails which revealed Thames Valley Police admitted trying to fob off the councillors over the issue of enforcement.
