Sir Roger on track to start fundraiser
10:00am Saturday 22nd September 2012 in News
THE grounds of the John Radcliffe Hospital filled with mad hatters, white rabbits and a lot of dedicated fundraisers yesterday.
More than 100 people took part in Emily’s Big Walk, a national series of walks aimed at raising awareness of childhood cancer.
People raised money for Kamran’s Ward at the Children’s Hospital with an Alice in Wonderland-themed walk around the hospital.
The event was started by Sir Roger Bannister, who in 1954 became the first man to run a mile in under four minutes at the Iffley Road Running Track.
He said: “It’s a very moving occasion to see how everyone has turned up today.
“I’m a neurologist and all my life I have been very aware of the difficult prognosis of, particularly cerebral tumours, in the young.
“So I am delighted to be here watching how everything is being handled here in Oxford.”
