Man trapped in mud freed by fire crews

A MAN had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming stuck in deep mud on Oxford’s Port Meadow.
Fire crews were called to Aristotle Lane, in North Oxford, shortly before 5.20pm on Friday.
A fire engine, 4x4 vehicle and a specialist rescue team were deployed to the scene, where the crews found the man stuck in mud up to his knees.
Firefighters freed him after using an an inflatable walkway, known as an ice path, to spread their weight on the muddy ground.
The man was not not injured in the incident.
In 2001, people living near Port Meadow raised concerns about the area being turned into a “quagmire”.
They said flooding from the River Thames and drainage channels, along with the effects of animals grazing on the land, were churning up the ground. Port Meadow is popular with ramblers and dog walkers.
Oxfordshire has experienced higher than average rainfall this summer, with the Met Office reporting it to be the wettest summer in 100 years.

Anyway, what an awful bit of journalism. Firstly, "Sax" is his nickname, real name Paul Saxton, so you don't call someone by their nickname AND surname, but worst of all, they credit Princess Diana with opening the centre in 1999 - two years after she died.
Come on journos, if this was a national, you'd have been hauled up in front of your sub editor by now...if not someone higher.
