Man jailed indefinitely for home rape attempt
10:30am Wednesday 26th September 2012 in News
A 30-YEAR-OLD who tied up a 55-year-old woman in her Abingdon home and tried to rape her has been jailed indefinitely.
Danny Hawkins, of Ock Drive, Berinsfield, attacked the woman on November 8 last year.
At Oxford Crown Court yesterday, he was handed a minimum five-year prison sentence after he was convicted at an earlier hearing of attempted rape.
Speaking outside court, Det Ch Insp Mark Johns said: “Hawkins’ offence was a despicable act, which has had a massive impact on his victim’s life.
“Today’s sentence is the result of good work by a team of dedicated officers who tirelessly investigated this case and assisted the victim through the difficult task of having to give evidence in court. She has shown tremendous bravery and courage and I hope that she can now take some comfort from the knowledge that Hawkins will be spending a long time behind bars, where he will remain until he takes responsibility for his actions.”
