No water for 100 houses

THAMES Water last night denied a water failure – which hit about 100 properties in Headington, Oxford, yesterday – was anything to do with ongoing issues in the area.

Earlier this month Headington councillors handed a nine-page dossier of problems to water firm officials at a special meeting.

It came after 2,000 Headington customers had their supply cut off for about four hours after one of the mains sprang a leak in July.

St Andrew’s Road residents in Old Headington also said they were bothered by frequent sewage leaks.

Thames Water was yesterday alerted at about 7am over the latest problem and fixed it by 10am.

Spokesman Natalie Slater said pumps in the area had been “tripping out”.

She said: “We’re really sorry for the disruption caused by this.”

But she added: “It’s a totally separate issue.”
