A 'male' driver? Do you mean a man or a boy?

Don't you know any plain English?

Are you copying the police report?

'Male driver' is correct in this case; it informs us that the victim was a driver, not a passenger or a pedestrian.

They're just copying the press release without trying to find out more details, that a simple phone call to the police would provide.
