Life in prison for Aaron Buron's killer

TEENAGE murderer Haydan O’Callaghan has been given life in prison, with a minimum of 21 years behind bars.

The 18-year-old was sentenced today at Oxford Crown Court after a jury found him guilty of murdering Rose Hill musician Aaron Buron on Friday.

O’Callaghan, of Saunders Road, Cowley, stabbed 29-year-old Mr Buron three times after the hip-hop artist tried to stop the teen from beating his girlfriend in March.

As long as it is a minimum of 21 years, then a fair sentence, and judging by his behaviour in the dock there will probably be a few more years added on over time.

21 years may seem a long time, but what price do we as a society place upon the life of a child or adult who has been killed - either as murder or manslaughter - for that person, and their Families? We are supposed to be more humane and developed in our attitude to life, but are we any closer in rhe 21st centuary to being able to cope with death, and its finality? The sad realisation is that life has become a very cheap commodity to many, with the sickness being not so much the individual who kills or maims others, but the society in which we all live, and seem unable, unwilling or afraid to change.

Too much focus on the murderer, in my opinion. We all make choices in life, even the worst mouth-breathers in our society can comprehend right and wrong. Product of his environment or not, no sympathy for him, he's dead to society now. RIP whoever it was he killed.

Life should mean life and hard labour as well. Personally, I would prefer he received the sentence of a length of rope and a long drop.
