Sports ground motion wins support
10:20am Wednesday 10th October 2012 in News
PLANS to improve sports facilities in Witney were discussed by the town council on Monday.
Councillors unanimously agreed a motion saying the council should “reaffirm its policy of pursuing plans for expanding and providing state-of-the-art sports facilities for Witney with emphasis on its dedication to ensuring that all facilities will be Disability Discrimination Act-compliant”.
The council has a policy of selling West Witney Sports Ground to fund new facilities elsewhere in town, but a change in leadership at the authority has seen a new willingness to look again at that idea.
Councillor Alan Beames said: “This means we’re 100 per cent behind looking for more sporting facilities in Witney and are pursuing that.
“Hopefully we can get a result on that very soon, but there’s a lot of background work to do in the meantime.”
Members of local tennis and football clubs also spoke at the meeting, expressing their support for the motion.
