Arson? So, there goes this month's Police 'Crime Reduction' stats up in flames - or did the shed perhaps decide to 'spontaniously combust' due to years of 'patch and mend' repairs and felt depressed and neglected?

Myron your cynicism leaves me depressed. Arson it certainly was and the second incident after our neighbour's pet rabbit died a horrible death last week when their shed was targeted. it's not easy to sleep at night when this sort of crime happens so close to home. Your insensitive remarks aren't helpful to those of us at the receiving end of such destructive criminal behaviour. Might I suggest you use the time you spend posting comments more constructively by praising our emergency services for their response to events like these and risking their own safety in the process. I for one am very grateful for their efforts

The people who do these wicked acts have no sense of the damage they cause, they didnt have to look at their childs face when they were told their rabbit had died, the shed and contents r replaceable but making that child feel safe is not an easy job when you dont feel safe yourself. These recent fires have rocked our tiny comunity too the core and picking the pieces up is going to b a long process. My family and neighbours are very thankfull for the fireman's swift response as the out come could have been a lot worse.

Let's be quite clear - arson and setting fire to garden sheds may not be on the same level as murder, but nor is it just 'harmless pranks' and something 'what kids do when they are bored.' Given the funding, re-organisations and and cut-backs which this and previous governments have imposed upon the Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance services, here in Oxford they do an amazing job. With regard to the Police, PCSOs and other agencies which work to help safeguard our communities, they depend to a great extent upon support and help from within the communities in which they work, and we live in. Only working with each other can we help to combat crime, anti-social behaviour, and the fear which just a few individuals can often create within entire communities.
