Dog owners told to clean up or face camera crackdown

COVERT CCTV cameras could be installed in parks unless more dog owners clean up after their pets, council bosses have warned.
Banbury Town Council said it had seen a “flood” of complaints about dog fouling in its parks.
Owners face a £50 spot fine if they are caught in the act by Cherwell District Council or town council officers.
But in June it was revealed that just four owners had been fined by the district council between April 2010 and April 2012.
Town councillor Colin Clarke said: “We are cracking down on this, and we will not hesitate to prosecute anyone caught committing an offence.
“If dog fouling continues to be a problem we could install hidden CCTV cameras without further warning. They can clearly identify people up to half-a-mile away and they will be monitored 24/7.”
The town council runs parks including People’s Park, Princess Diana Park and Spiceball Park.
The council said fouling was a particular issue at the Horton View sports field and Moorfields.

You can also put bagged poo in a normal bin if no poo-bins are nearby - not ideal but better than not clearing up at all.

One of the worst areas in Banbury is Bankside park. This park has become very dirty and poorly maintained by the local council and there have also been several members of the public attacked by loose dogs here also.
It seems that Cherwell District council do very little to prevent dogs fouling or attacking people in this park and never patrol it with any dog wardens. Dogs have also been observed running across the busy road and almost causing accidents and fights between dogs is a regular occurance here!
Instead of installing cameras perhaps a more cost effective way would be to actually get their Dog Wardens to do what they are paid to do- and patrol the local parks regularly!!!
Cherwell District Council admit that they have NEVER imposed any fines for dog fouling in this area- so it is no co-incidence that this is related to the ongoing excessive dog mess that is mounting up in Banbury!!!
