Oxfam freedom of city ceremony date

OXFORD: Councillors will present Oxfam with the Freedom of the City at a special meeting next week.

On Tuesday, a one-off full council meeting will be held at the Town Hall, St Aldate’s at 4pm.

At the meeting, Lord Mayor Alan Armitage will ask Labour councillor Antonia Bance to move that the council should bestow the honour.

The motion is expected to be seconded by Lib Dem John Goddard and supported by Green councillor Craig Simmons.

If it is passed, the scroll will be passed to Oxfam’s chief executive Dame Barbara Stocking, who will then make a speech.
