Mud shuts A420 for almost seven hours

OXON: The A420 northbound was shut for nearly seven hours yesterday because of mud on the road.

The carriageway was closed between the A338 and B4017 Abingdon Road from 12.05am until shortly before 7am.

A police spokesman said it was unclear where it had come from, but it caused a safety hazard.

The mud was later cleared by county council contractors.

If you read the earlier report of this, a comment has been left to say " a large tractor left the field, just past the Land Rover garage, & left all the mud on the road" , so it is no secret where it came from. I hope the council will charge this farmer & the police speak to him about safety.

... and the farmer will have a word with his Tory councillor mate over a pint in the club, the charges will drop and no more will be said about the matter.

Farmers are legally obliged to remove mud from the road if they leave any there.

The reporting on here puzzles me sometimes.
