Wendy Morton lives locally in North Shields, and currently shares her time between working and living in the Tynemouth constituency and running a business in North Yorkshire.
She was born in Northallerton, the daughter of a farm labourer, and following secondary education at Wensleydale Comprehensive School she began her professional career serving in the Diplomatic Service.
Following on from a successful career in sales and marketing, she started a small manufacturing and electronics business with her husband David in 1990.
Her entry into politics began in 2001 when she successfully first stood for election as a District Councillor, achieving a 6.9 per cent swing for the Conservatives in a by-election. In 2005 she was the Conservative Party's Parliamentary Candidate in Newcastle Central.
She is a supporter of Newcastle United and Whitley Bay Football Clubs, and is also a keen runner having completed the Great North Run four times for charities.
