BANKS of a stream have been given cleaned up to reduce the risk of flooding to homes in Steventon.

The Environment Agency has cleared sections of the Ginge Brook from the A34 upstream to Steventon as part of its annual programme.

Work included trimming back overgrown trees and other vegetation, which if left to grow can cause blockages. Silt was also removed.

John Hillier, operations delivery team leader at the Environment Agency, said: "We cannot do this routine clearance for every watercourse throughout Oxfordshire.

"It is essential that people whose properties do adjoin rivers or streams are aware of the responsibility for maintaining their own stretch."
