A STINGER was used by police to stop a car that had led them on a high speed chase which ended in Croxley Green.

The spiked chain was thrown in front of a Ford Fiesta in Frankland Road, puncturing the tyres and bringing to an end a chase which had started in Harrow.

Five men fled from the vehicle but officers gave chase and captured the men who were taken to Harrow police station.

The 40 minute chase began when police were called to Augustine Road, in Hatch End at 2.18am on Tuesday, after reports that a gang of men were breaking into vehicles and making off in them.

After arriving on the scene the officers began to follow a suspicious looking blue Ford Fiesta, containing five men.

They followed the car into Victor Road in North Harrow and then into Oxhey Lane, heading towards Watford.

At this point, the officers turned on their sirens, signalling the vehicle to pull over.

The car failed to stop and instead broke through a set of traffic lights.

At 2.30am, Hertfordshire Police were called in for assistance.

The force sent a patrol car and followed the vehicle onto the Uxbridge Road, where the car drove the wrong way down Pinner Road.

As the car drove into Frankland Road in Croxley Green, officers deployed the stinger.
