December 14, 2000 12:42: An unemployed teenager appeared before magistrates on Tuesday charged with murdering a Northolt man at this year's Notting Hill Carnival.
Delivery driver Greg Watson, 21, who had just fathered a baby girl, was stabbed in the stomach in a busy carnival area on August 28 as he tried to protect his teenage cousin from a gang of youths who were harrassing her.
He died almost immediately.
His brutal murder, which took place around 10pm at the junction of Kensal Road and Bosworth Road, was recorded on CCTV cameras and shown on BBC's Crimewatch programme on October 11, with the offer of a £10,000 reward for information which could help track down his killers.
Sean Cephins, 19, of Euston Court, Station Grove in Wembley, will appear at West London Magistrates Court in Hammersmith again next Tuesday.
Police confirmed that the CCTV footage and the Crimestoppers appeal played a significant role in the investigation.
