BEING showered with presents is part of what birthdays are about for young children.
But one generous Oxford girl decided for her big day, she wanted to be the one handing out the gifts.
Lottie Pucks asked her friends to bring to her fourth birthday party in December unwrapped gifts for children who go to East Oxford children’s respite hospice Helen and Douglas House.
They gifts included books, CDs, DVDs and sensory toys and they became a central theme at the party, with the partygoers decorating paper and wrapping each present.
They also created gift tags describing what was inside so staff at the hospice could match them to the right children and young adults.
Lottie was following in big sister Fifi’s footsteps, who gave presents to the hospice for her fifth birthday last year.
The girls both said: “It was nice to be generous and help the sick children.”
Lottie wasn’t completely ignored, however, receiving a few presents of her own from her family, including a new school bag, a skirt in her favourite colour, purple, and a family trip to the pantomime.
Her mother, Mina Pucks, said: “It was wonderful for all the kids as we spoke about what the gifts were for and about the work of Helen and Douglas House.”
