O xfordshire County Council has announced plans for another controlled parking zone in Oxford – this time in Cutteslowe.

It comes less than a month after plans were revealed for a CPZ in Botley and only three months since two zones came into force in East Oxford.

The fact that it took the county council five years to get the Divinity Road and Magdalen Road North CPZs approved only goes to show what a controversial issue they are.

While some bitterly resent having to fork out £50 for the privilege of parking outside their own homes, others point to the fact that they haven’t been able to park outside their own homes for years because of commuters parking there all day.

There are now 25 CPZs in operation across the city and if the Botley and Cutteslowe zones are implemented then Oxford will have welcomed four new ones in the space of 12 months.

At least the Cutteslowe CPZ represents a slightly more flexible approach but If Oxford is heading towards becoming one giant CPZ, then the county council should say so.
