A KEY route through Headington, Oxford, will be closed for resurfacing work for two weeks.

The maintenance work will start in Warneford Lane on Monday. It will take place on the eastbound lane of the dual carriageway between Morrell Avenue roundabout and Gipsy Lane junction.

Traffic will be diverted via Morrell Avenue, Headington Road and Gipsy Lane.

Spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council Sam Henry said: “It is not due to potholes, it is just regular maintenance.

“The decision was taken to carry out this work during half term to minimise the impact on local schools.”

Parking will be suspended along both carriageways on Warneford Lane during the works. People living or working in Cheney Lane will be able to gain access from the Gipsy Lane junction.

Andrew Carter, who lives on nearby Hill Top Road, said: “It won’t affect people who live nearby because we have alternative routes.

“If anything it will reduce the rat run traffic. People will have to find a way round.”

Meanwhile, Oxfordshire County Council workers were carrying out emergency pothole repairs on the A420 at Cumnor yesterday. It affected traffic on the northbound stretch of road between the B4017 Abingdon Road and the B4044.

The lane was closed until around 3pm.
