Takeaway plan sparks rat fears
7:00pm Monday 4th March 2013 in News
PLANS to replace a property business with a takeaway in Jericho are being opposed by residents because of worries about rodents.
Reside letting agents in Walton Street, part of North Oxford Property Service, could make way for a hot food outlet if plans submitted to Oxford City Council are successful.
But a number of residents have expressed concern about the impact on the area.
City councillor for Jericho, Susanna Pressel, said: “People nearby are worried a takeaway will lead to increased noise, traffic and litter in that part of Walton Street. When there was a cafe there before, people had rats in their gardens.”
One Cardigan Street resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I would be completely opposed. There are enough takeaway places, and students are already a big enough problem.”
Robin Swailes, of North Oxford Property Service, declined to comment.
