Group wants to make a splash

COUNCILLORS have agreed to set up a working party to look into funding a new splash park in Witney.

Witney Town Council’s leisure and recreation subcommittee met on Monday night to discuss revamping the old pool in The Leys.

The working party, which will include a councillor and member of the public plus council officers, will be tasked with finding grants for the new facility.

But councillors confirmed the pool will be closed this year due to broken paving slabs. The 45-year-old facility had to be closed five times last year.

The town council is considering spending £70,000 and getting match-funding from grant-giving bodies to fund the splash park.

It is hoped the facility will be open next year and will be modelled on Abbey Meadows in Abingdon, which includes water fountains activated by pressure pads.

The committee’s decisions have to be ratified by the full council.
