Leave the badgers alone, protesters tell Government

AROUND 200 protesters came together to criticise the Government’s badger culls.

A pilot scheme in Somerset has recently been extended as the Government tries to tackle TB in cattle, which it claims is spread by infected badgers.

Emily Lawrence, 41, of New Road, in Kingham, organised the protest in the Prime Minister’s constituency to urge him to scrap the controlled shooting schemes.

Mrs Lawrence also brought her seven-year-old daughter Elissa and said the demonstration was friendly and good fun.

She said: “Everybody was very nice and a lot of people saw us and stood watching, so hopefully we’ve raised awareness.”

The protesters marched from the Woolgate Centre through Witney town centre.

Campaigner Dominic Dyer of Care for the Wild International also gave a speech as part of the demonstration.

Police said the protest on Saturday passed off without incident.

I'm sure they are nice people but I would caution that to animal terrorists they are "useful idiots" and they risk infiltration, as does any similar group. I hope the police may tell them this also but fear they might not.
I have no axe to grind, being an agnostic about the cull, but animal terrorists are very crazy and violent people .

The press office of the CPRE, who have close links to the Green Party in Oxford, are usually very willing to provide a quote.

What's their view on the badger cull? Surely they'd be most appropriate voice of farmers and the countryside...

Terrorists.....what proof have you to make that Statement? I am a 70 year old woman who until now was a fervent conservative, and I was a member of Saturday's demonstration in Witney against this appalling badger cull. I participated because this extermination is being carried out without any proven scientific evidence. Whilst gathered on the Green I was happy to observe that the majority of people that joined us where mainly people of my ilk. We are no doubt all grandparents and parents desperately trying to save this country's wildlife for the next generation.

David Cameron's political leadership and Tory Party policies are rotten at the core. Badger killing is vicious, cruel/a complete disgrace, a wildlife crime against a protected species. The killing of badgers sanctioned by this government is not supported by science and David Cameron has ignored advice. There are thousands of people in the UK who are stepping forward to protest the badger killing. Protesters in Witney, on social networks (twitter/Facebook) and out in the badger killing fields of Somerset and Gloucestershire day and night. David Cameron's Tory party are seriously devoid of any compassion for wildlife in the UK. There is a significant disconnection with nature at the very heart of their politics and thinking.

Politicians do not have the right to issue judgement on which wildlife should be allowed to live and which animals should die.

I wish this had been better published as I would have joined.
Ignore Lord Palmerstone, he is a hunt sympathiser so probably supports killing all wildlife (I’m sure he will make some comment on my post) so his ravings about terrorists do not surprise me, as usual he is trying to twist the focus of the article. The article has nothing to do with terrorists but is about people legally protesting against the badger cull which has no scientific basis.
I’m sure the government will all turn round in a few years’ time and wonder why badgers are an endangered species and claim it was nothing to do with them.

It is really frustrating when people try to stereotype – animal terrorists – what utter rubbish. Most are hard working or retired individuals, desperately trying to preserve our wildlife for everyone to enjoy, and stop the wealthy landowners (the minority of the population) from trying to destroy the countryside. The Hunt Sabs are a wonderful group of dedicated people, determined to stop the vile cruel sports those same wealthy few seem to revel in indulging in. Terrorists are people who shoot, bomb, blow things up, so in this case Lord Palmerstone, I suggest you look at the NFU, Natural England, their hired gunmen, Defra and Countryside Alliance as the terrorists in this instance as they are the ones causing the death and destruction, all supported by David Cameron and Nick Clegg!!
