Leave the badgers alone, protesters tell Government
9:00am Monday 14th October 2013 in News
AROUND 200 protesters came together to criticise the Government’s badger culls.
A pilot scheme in Somerset has recently been extended as the Government tries to tackle TB in cattle, which it claims is spread by infected badgers.
Emily Lawrence, 41, of New Road, in Kingham, organised the protest in the Prime Minister’s constituency to urge him to scrap the controlled shooting schemes.
Mrs Lawrence also brought her seven-year-old daughter Elissa and said the demonstration was friendly and good fun.
She said: “Everybody was very nice and a lot of people saw us and stood watching, so hopefully we’ve raised awareness.”
The protesters marched from the Woolgate Centre through Witney town centre.
Campaigner Dominic Dyer of Care for the Wild International also gave a speech as part of the demonstration.
Police said the protest on Saturday passed off without incident.
