REMEMBRANCE Sunday saw the unveiling of a new memorial to soldiers from North Hinksey and Botley who lost their lives in the Second World War.

The hand-carved war memorial bearing the names of the 11 men was dedicated at St Lawrence Church, North Hinksey, as part of the Remembrance Day Service in the village on Sunday.

Leading the dedication was the honorary assistant Bishop of Oxford, Bishop Bill Down, and other guests included Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood, Abingdon town and county councillor Mike Badcock, and families whose loved ones’ names feature on the memorial.

Also there was North Hinksey resident Ray Rook, who, despite being told that no one had died from the villages during the conflict, made an appeal for information.
