BARRIERS have been put up to try and keep back floodwater from homes in Osney Island, Oxford.

Environment Agency workers put up the demountable barriers in South Street at midday.

The move comes after the number of flood warnings for Oxfordshire rose to three today.

They are for the River Windrush through Witney, Ducklington and Hardwick; the River Thames in West Oxfordshire from Buscot Wick to Shifford and the River Thames in Oxford and its tributaries at New Botley, New and North Hinksey and Grandpont.

Flood warning signs have been installed in Main Street, Clanfield, Bloxham Road, Banbury, the B4035 at Broughton Lane.

Roads closed include Woodeaton Village Road, High Street between Clifton Hampden and Long Wittenham, Lower Street in Islip, and London Lane at Ascott-under-Wychwood.
