A THEATRE was closed last night after a man was found dead.

Front of house staff at the Pegasus Theatre in East Oxford made the discovery shortly after 2pm.

Police were yesterday investigating at the Magdalen Road youth theatre after officers said the death was being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. They were last night trying to establish who the man was.

A ‘closed’ sign on the door

Theatre artistic director Jonathan Lloyd moved to reassure youngsters and parents, and said he expected the venue to reopen today.

He said: “All staff at Pegasus are shocked and saddened by the events. A man’s body was found in unexplained circumstances and police are continuing their investigations.”

It was closed for the rest of yesterday but was expected to open again as normal today.

Mr Lloyd added: “Until the police know more, we are reluctant to comment further, but we want to reassure any of the young people we work with and their families that there’s no threat to safety and we hope to open as normal tomorrow.’”

Theatre spokeswoman Gill Jaggers said the man was not known by people at the theatre and she did not know where in the building the body had been found.
