PERFORMERS have been limbering up for their upcoming dance show at Oxford’s Pegasus Theatre.

On February 28 and March 1, the Magdalen Road venue will host Moving with the Times, a series of 20-minute performances commissioned specially for annual festival Dancin’ Oxford.

For the show’s fourth year, Unlock The Chains Collective will perform Politics of Love – a dance sequence accompanied by nothing but spoken word. The speech will be taken from poems written by group member Euton Daley.

Blackbird Leys cast member Nicola Moses-Thrower, 37, said performing dance without music was strange at first, but that she quickly got used to it.

She told the Oxford Mail: “It is the first time I have done a performance that is solely to do with the voice.

“But rehearsals have been going well and it has actually come quite naturally.

“It makes it all about the rhythms you create yourself, the way you move and the way the poems are delivered.

“No one person is just the narrator and there is a lot of crossover.”

This year’s Dancin’ Oxford Festival will showcase dance across the city from Friday, February 28 to Monday, March 10.
