SUZY and Rosy were two dogs microchipped in a council scheme.

Owner Catherine Warner went to the free event at the WFS Country Shop in Witney where the Dogs Trust supplied microchips as part of the Dogs in the Community project.

From 2016 it will be compulsory for all dogs to be microchipped.

Mrs Warner, 24, of Green Road, Eynsham, said: “It is a good idea. If your dog gets lost or stolen it will be able to be tracked back to you.”

Details of owner and dog go on a national database and if a stray dog is found, it can be scanned and identified.

West Oxfordshire dog warden Dawn Long said: “When a dog is found by us we are able to get it back to its owner in most cases. I would just remind people to make sure they update their details if they move.”

Spaces are still available for a session at the Countrywide shop in Chipping Norton, on February 14. Call 01993 861020 to book a place.
