A PAIR of Oxford school friends are planning to pedal more than 1,300 miles for charity.

St Edward pupils George Henry and Will Bull, both 16, will attempt to ride from Calais to Gibraltar, to raise money for Cancer Research this summer.

Though the furthest they have cycled before is about 150 miles, they are now training at the gym every other day for the new challenge.

He said: “We wanted to do something a bit different that would be a challenge.

“Our families have been very supportive, helping us out with equipment and giving us contacts for raising money.”

The pair say they were inspired by Sarah Outen, the English athlete and adventurer, who is currently trying to loop the world in a London-to-London journey via bike, rowing boat and kayak.

George said: “She inspired us to have an adventure of our own.”

Their choice of charity was made after a teacher died from cancer, and because they both have relatives who have been victims of the disease.

They estimate the ride will take about seven weeks and are looking for donations from people and businesses.

Will said: “We have previously held a 24-hour run around the Quad for charity.

“We managed to get our whole school house out to join that one so we are hoping for another success.”
