A TIME has been set for the demolition of the Didcot A Power Station towers.

The three towers will be demolished between 3am and 5am on Sunday, July 27.

RWE npower has said the early start is because of safety checks, weather and road closures.

David Buckle, chief executive of South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils, said: “Didcot Power Station is a landmark of huge importance for people around here, offering a real sense of location and local identity.

“It’s therefore very disappointing that the demolition of the first set of towers will take place at such an early hour, meaning that many, including children and many adults who have only known Didcot with the towers, will not be able to witness this historic occasion.

“I will be asking RWE npower whether they are prepared to have another look at this.”
