A man called a 45-year-old man to a car and stole his mobile phone from his pocket in Banbury.
Police said a man was walking in Cromwell Road between 7pm and 7.30pm on Friday when he was called over to a black Volkswagen.
A man in the passenger seat who police said was Asian, aged 20 to 25 and of athletic build asked the man for a cigarette.
As the man reached into his pocket the man in the car took a black Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phone and bank card from his other pocket.
Police said two other men in the car were Asian, aged 20 to 25 and of medium and larger build.
