SUPERMUM Laura Halls dedicates almost every waking minute to looking after her four children.

The Greater Leys resident, who wakes at 5am every day to look after her children, two of whom have extra care needs, has been recognised with a national award.

The 29-year-old is the registered carer of her disabled son Keane, seven, who has cerebral palsy and requires frequent occupational and speech therapy as well as physiotherapy.

Another of her children Lucy, nine, was born prematurely weighing just 2lb 1oz and spent her first 89 days in intensive care and as a result has global developmental delay and epilepsy.

Mrs Halls also looks after 18-month-old baby Dawson and ten-year-old James, while husband David works full-time.

She said: “It’s a lot of hospital appointments and a lot of home visits but I’m keeping on top of things. I would do anything for my family, it hasn’t always been easy but I wouldn’t change my children for the world and my husband is a rock.”

Nominated for the Supermum awards by her husband David, who works for the emergency services, Mrs Halls said she was shocked by the award.

She said: “I knew my husband had nominated me but I was still surprised.

“I don’t think I do anymore than anyone else does. Several of my friends have children with disabilities and maybe it could be them instead.

“I do what I have to do on a dayto- day basis to make my children comfortable.

“It’s tough, yes. Some days are good and some days are bad.”

The mother-of-four wakes up at 5am with her youngest, 18-month-old Dawson, before getting the older children, Keane, Lucy and James, ready for school at 6.30am.

She said: “My favourite time of day is when it’s just me and my babies – even the bigger ones.

“I love spending quality time with them baking or just cuddling on the sofa.”

She picks her children up from school at 3.15pm before taking Keane and James to a variety of after-school clubs, such as hockey and football.

Dinner is served at 5pm and Mrs Halls finally gets some peace at about 8pm.

“It’s normally about 8pm when the last one goes to bed, then I sit with David and watch TV or maybe have a bath. To be honest most days by that time I’m ready for bed and I’ll just go to sleep.”

The stay-at-home mum has been awarded the first Supermum of the month award given out by retail store Shoe Zone.

The 29-year-old was awarded £200 worth of Amazon vouchers and said she knew exactly how to spend it.

She said: “I’m going to preorder coffee pods – they are quite expensive but much-needed at 5am every morning.”
