A 44-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded in custody charged with 19 offences against 10 people following Thursday’s anti-slavery raids.

Timothy Joyce was one of eight people arrested during search warrants at Redbridge Hollow, South Oxford.

The father of six appeared for a hearing at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning.

He was remanded in custody and no plea was entered.

He faces a range of charges dating between 2007 and this year including conspiracy to hold another person in servitude, conspiracy to require another person to perform forced or compulsory labour, harassment, causing actual bodily harm, assault by beating, four counts of making threats to kill, affray and blackmail.

He also faces four counts of fraud; against Thomson Local by booking advertising in name of Mr M F Swann; against Ashok Sood by ordering £587.98 worth of furniture in the name of Roy Willcock; and two by ordering goods in Roy Wilcox’s name worth £315.80 and £746.61.

Joyce will next appear at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, April 17, alongside Helen Collins, also of Redbridge Hollow, also remanded in custody.

She is charged with conspiracy to require another person to perform forced compulsory labour between April 2010 and February 2015, keeping another person in servitude between the same dates and of conspiracy to defraud between April 2002 and February 2015.

Two further teenagers were also arrested in raids in Blackbird Leys and Rose Hill in Oxford.

The latest information about the other arrested people is that a 47-year-old man was still in custody yesterday.

Two men, aged 44 and 20, have been released on police bail until May 29.

Three men, aged 44, 21 and 19, have been bailed until May 26.

A 27-year-old man has been bailed until May 4.

A 56-year-old man was released without charge.
