A CITY kebab van is to find out its fate today after being awarded a zero food hygiene rating.

Harry’s Grill – which traded outside the Oxford Castle Quarter in New Road – was given the rating after an inspection in March found there was no hot water, hand wash soap or washing equipment and food was not kept at the right temperature.

A council environmental health officer also reported an unregistered employee working in the vehicle as well as buckets of raw meat on the floor next to bread and grated cheese near raw burgers under the fridge.

The business agreed to close last month until food safety was improved.

Owner Haroon Khan has since attempted to renew his street trading licence which will go before Oxford City Council’s licensing sub committee this evening.

March’s report produced by the city council’s environmental department expressed disappointment as the business had received free coaching from a Food Standard Agency officer in October last year.

In August 2013 the business received a Food Hygiene Rating of 1 – with no hot water, cross contamination and temperature control cited as reasons.

In November that year a Food Standards Agency representative noted some improvements but recorded several legal contraventions had not been met.

In December 2013 Mr Khan was issued with a strict warning from the same committee after being caught trading at 3am after his licensed hours.

A report sent to councillors on the committee said Mr Khan was not present during any inspections nor had he responded to the council to discuss any of the visits.

The committee will meet at 5.30pm tonight at Oxford Town Hall to determine the application.

The Oxford Mail phoned the number on the Harry’s Grill Facebook page – the person who answered said they were no longer managing the van but could not tell us their name.
