GIRL Guides from the USA and Mexico have been visiting their counterparts in Oxfordshire this week for a huge jamboree.

About 600 guides descended on St Hugh’s School in Carswell near Faringdon from Sunday and have been water zorbing, abseiling and climbing.

All the girls at the Global Adventure Camp were aged from 10 to 25.

The camp takes place once every five years.

As international guides descended on Oxfordshire, other guides from the county were jetting off on other adventures around the world.

Lucy Bailey, 15, from the Wantage and District branch, flew to Japan last Friday to an international Scout Jamboree.

Tara Paxton-Doggett and Georgina Woodhill, both 13, from the same branch, flew to San Francisco the following day to join the Girl Scout and Guide Camporee there.

With 559,996 members, Girlguiding calls itself the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK.
