THIRTY inspirational people will be chosen to raise money for The Oxford United Community Trust and one could be you.

The charity, registered last month, is seeking the volunteers to take on heartwarming challenges to bring in cash through its 30United campaign.

Entries have opened and the final list will be announced in November after the trust’s launch.

Operations director Caroline Robbins has set herself the challenge of overcoming her fear of singing.

Having not sung for more than 10 years after freezing on stage, she will serenade home fans at half time of the U’s Boxing Day fixture against Exeter.

Ms Robbins said: “I used to sing. I was part of Birmingham Symphony Hall Choir. Then one day on stage I just froze and I couldn’t do it.

“I haven’t sung in front of anyone for more than 10 years. It is genuinely terrifying.”

She added: “The purpose of the trust is to empower and inspire our fans, their families and people in the wider community to reach their potential and achieve their dreams.”

The 30 challenges signify the 30th anniversary of Oxford United’s famous Milk Cup triumph in 1986.

Money raised could go towards a free breakfast scheme in schools across the county. The club plans to take food and nutritional advice to schools.

Free health and fitness sessions for U’s fans could be offered plus a bid to get more women employed in football in admin, as coaches or referees.

The club’s commercial director Kevin Smith has put himself forward for a half marathon while chief executive Mark Ashton will take on a triathlon.

The community trust will be launched in October with England manager Roy Hodgson expected at a gala dinner.
