PETROLHEADS flocked to Blenheim Palace this weekend for the estate’s festival of transport.

A range of vintage cars were on show at the Woodstock stately home, from motorcycles, Minis and VWs, to hot rods and American sports cars.

And although visitors to the two-day vehicle extravaganza – which also runs today – were rained on yesterday, this didn’t stop retired Birmingham car restorer David Wilkes from making the trip.

Mr Wilkes, 72, brought along his 1927 Austin 7, which he has owned for eight years.

“I’ve held on to it because it always makes people smile and is a pleasure to drive,” he said.

“It’s been very nice to park up and look around the palace grounds.”

Freeland car restorer David Wood has been going to the festival for the past four years.

The 59-year-old drove his 1929 Triumph Super 7 Special there, which he spent three years restoring.

He said: “It’s a really laid-back event and it is always interesting to see so many different kinds of cars.
