A woman was taken to hospital after a car and lorry crashed on the Eastern Bypass.

The road was blocked southbound after a crash at the Headington roundabout. Traffic backed up on North Way, on the approach to the roundabout.

The car, a Ford Focus, had crashed into a lorry, police said.

Witness James Head said: "I saw a police van parked behind the lorry. It was lucky that the car hit the central reservation instead of going onto the other side of the road."

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Lucy Billen said: "We were called at 10.51am to an incident involving a Ford Focus car driving on the inside lane of the Eastern Bypass near Horspath Road, which had collided with a stationary lorry in the lorry park at the side of the road."

She added that the woman, who had been driving the Ford Focus, had been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital. She was not thought to be seriously hurt.

The road was cleared at 1.40pm.

South Central Ambulance Service said that it got a call about the crash, between a car and a lorry, at 10.50am. An ambulance and a rapid response car were sent to the scene.
