POLICE have closed a road in Carterton after a driver crashed a car into gas pipe.
The Oxford Mail's traffic feed reported the closure of Burford Road shortly after 3.30pm today, where engineers are carrying out emergency repairs.
The road is closed both ways and is expected to remain shut into the evening.
Elaine Day, headteacher of Carterton Primary School in Burford Road, said: "I was told somebody ran into the gas main in a neighbouring road.
"Part of Burford Road is closed to people coming in, but people can get out. I would suggest parents park and walk to pick up their children.
"There is no risk to safety, everyone is absolutely fine."
She said she smelt gas at about 2pm and said police and fire engines were on the scene.
A parent who was picking his child up from the school, who asked to remain anonymous, added: "The crash was on Sellwood Drive which has been completely taped off by police."
