CAMPAIGNERS took to the centre of an Oxfordshire town to protest proposed changes to health services.

Members of Chipping Norton Labour Party and UNISON gathered in High Street this morning as part of Labour’s national ‘Care for the NHS Day’.

District councillor for Chipping Norton Geoff Saul said: "Because of Tory cuts and under-funding, the NHS is in crisis with appalling pressures daily in A&E departments.

"As the party that created the NHS, only Labour will provide the true levels of funding that the NHS and social care need."

The group were campaigning against the proposed downgrade of maternity and other acute services at the Horton General Hospital in Banbury and threats to maternity services at Chipping Norton Community Hospital.

The proposals are now out for consultation.
