DRIVERS are facing long delays out of the city as traffic builds around the roadworks on Abingdon Road this evening.

Queues are backing up along Abingdon Road after a similar picture for commuters this morning after one of Oxford's busiest thoroughfares undergoes sewer works.

A section of Abingdon Road is partially closed by Thames Water for the works until March 3.

The affected area is near Western Road and cars were at a standstill as far back as the ring road due temporary traffic lights being in place this morning.

Now motorists are faced with long traffic jams back to the city centre as commuters attempt to head home this evening.

Motorists were warned to avoid the route if possible and the Newton Road bus stop is temporarily out of action.

Oxford Mail:

Elsewhere in Oxford, the A34 reported queues northbound from South Hinksey as far back as Abingdon.

Traffic was slow on the A34 southbound from Peartree to Hinksey and Botley Road is at a standstill.

And the delays did not prove popular among commuters.
