A TEENAGER has been taken taken to hospital with a head injury after being hit by a coach.

The 19-year-old woman was involved in the collision at about 2.40pm yesterday in central Headington, in Oxford.

A passerby said the crash happened close to the Unite Students outlet, on London Road heading eastbound.

Charlotte Garfield, 26, acting sales manager at the accommodation provider did not see the crash but saw the aftermath.

She said: “It was close to 3pm and I could see a coach stopped at the bus stop. It had a big crack in the windscreen but I didn’t see the woman.

“There were sirens and about two ambulances.

“It was very busy. That road is always very busy.”

Drivers in the area were met with delays due to the emergency services on the scene.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Jack Abell said the road was cleared by 4.30pm. He added: “Thames Valley Police officers were called today following reports of a collision involving a coach and a pedestrian in London Road, Headington at about 2.40pm.

“The pedestrian, a woman, sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.”

South Central Ambulance spokesman David Gallagher said the crash happened between Brookside and Sandfield Road.

He added: “We were called to a 19-year old female hit by a coach.

“She was conscious and breathing at the scene and had sustained a head injury.

“We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene and she was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital.”
