MCDONALD’S in Botley Road in Oxford is getting a makeover.

Staff at the American burger chain shut the restaurant on Monday and it will reopen on Tuesday, March 14.

The revamp follows a £230,000 refurbishment in 2007 after the area was seriously flooded.

The restaurant has been fenced off while a new interior is being fitted and signs have been put up alerting customers to the temporary closure.

Manager Kabir Ahmed said: “It’s a full refurbishment inside and work started on Monday.

“It’s a significant investment and this is something that all our customers can look forward to.”

Mr Ahmed, 23, added that the upgrade would include service points at tables where customers can place and order and make a payment before their food and drink is brought to them.

He was unable to say precisely how much the revamp was costing but said it could amount to hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Table service with digital self-order kiosks will bring the Botley restaurant in line with branches in London Road, Headington and Didcot.

Customers can browse the menu and once they have completed their order can pay by card.

Mr Ahmed, manager of the restaurant for the past two years, said: “Our customers will be able to scroll through the menu and add on meals and drinks - I think it will be fun for kids.

“People can make a payment and then we will come over and present their food.”

There are 50 full and part-time staff working at the restaurant and more could be taken on.

Mr Ahmed added: “We are always recruiting for new staff.”

The manager joined the chain aged 16 and also worked at the Headington branch.

Commuters who drive through McDonald’s car park to save time will have to queue at the lights while the refurbishment is being completed.
