AN OVERTURNED lorry has been cleared from the M40 following an accident this morning.

Traffic is easing after the lorry was removed from the carriageway.

All three lanes have been reopened on the southbound carriageway between junction seven at Thame and junction six at Watlington.

Fire fighters from Watlington, Thame and Wheatley were sent to the scene along with a specialist rescue vehicle from Reading.

On arrival they found the lorry had left the road and gone down an embankment.

Crews checked over the vehicle to make sure it was not leaking fuel or carrying any hazardous items.

Spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service David Gallagher said paramedics were called at 11.38am.

He said: "The driver was a male in his early 70s who was treated for a medical emergency at the scene and fortunately he had only sustained a minor head injury in the accident.

"He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital."
