THE cause of a mystery ‘explosion’ that reverberated around East Oxford in the early hours of Saturday morning has yet to be established.
Residents reported being woken by the loud bang at about 2.30am, which was likened to a bomb or low-flying aircraft.
Police were called and attended an address in Aston Street but reported finding ‘nothing untoward’.
Today, spokespeople for RAF Benson and RAF Brize Norton said no operations at either of the Oxfordshire air bases could have caused the noise.
